Our Vision

This community was built inline with vision 2030 which focus on instilling values, enhancing knowledge and improving equal access to education. We want to provide a place in Saudi Arabia where newcomers and experienced peers interact, inspire each other to embed open science (research) practices and values in their workflows and provide feedback on policies, infrastructures and support services. Together working to make Open Science the norm. So we are calling out to researchers and colleagues in Saudi Arabia.

We are part of the International Network of Open Science and Scholarship Communities (INOSC) . INOSC members include OSCs in Galway (Ireland), Sweden and the Netherlands: Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Groningen, Leiden, Maastricht, Nijmegen, Twente, Utrecht.

Why Open Science Matters?

Open Science describes an on-going movement in the way research is performed, researchers collaborate, knowledge is shared, and science is organised. It affects the whole research cycle and its stakeholders, enhances science by facilitating more transparency, openness, networking and collaboration. Open Science opens up scientific processes and products from all levels to everyone. As such it includes Open Access, Open Research Data, Open Methodology, Open Evaluation, Citizen Science.

Open Science is about extending the principles of openness to the whole research cycle.

Scientific knowledge is a product of social collaboration and its ownership belongs to the community. So, we aims to:

  • Remove the barriers for sharing any kind of output, resources, methods or tools, at any stage of the research process.
  • Fostering sharing and collaboration as early as possible thus entailing a systemic change to the way science and research is done.

Benefit of Open Science

If the research outputs are accessible to all, the research process can be accelerated and new knowledge can be more quickly generated and built upon to help solve grand challenges.

  • Open science offers a better return on investment from research funded by public money and contributes to better economic growth.
  • Sharing articles, data, code and methods, result in multiplying the number of citable outputs.
  • More efficient use of scientific information and greater opportunity for innovation.
